MOVIE RECOMENDATIONS

Story

Director Todd Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Three-time Oscar nominee Phoenix (“The Master,” “Walk the Line,” “Gladiator”) stars in the titular role alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro (“Raging Bull,” “The Godfather: Part II”) as Franklin. The film also stars Zazie Beetz (“Deadpool 2”), Frances Conroy (TV’s “American Horror Story,” Hulu’s “Castle Rock”), Marc Maron (TV’s “Maron,” “GLOW”), Bill Camp (“Red Sparrow,” “Molly’s Game”), Glenn Fleshler (TV’s “Billions,” “Barry”), Shea Whigham (“First Man,” “Kong: Skull Island”), Brett Cullen (“42,” Netflix’s “Narcos”), Douglas Hodge (“Red Sparrow,” TV’s “Penny Dreadful”) and Josh Pais (upcoming “Motherless Brooklyn,” “Going in Style”).

Oscar nominee Phillips (“Borat,” “The Hangover” trilogy) directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Oscar-nominated writer Scott Silver (“The Fighter”), based on characters from DC. The film is produced by Phillips and Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper (“A Star Is Born,” “American Sniper”) under their Joint Effort banner, and Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff (“The Wolf of Wall Street”). It is executive produced by Michael E. Uslan, Walter Hamada, Aaron L. Gilbert, Joseph Garner, Richard Baratta, and Bruce Berman.

Behind the scenes, Phillips is joined by director of photography Lawrence Sher (“Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” “The Hangover” trilogy), production designer Mark Friedberg (“Selma,” “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”), editor Jeff Groth (“War Dogs,” “The Hangover Part III”), and Oscar-winning costume designer Mark Bridges (“Phantom Thread,” “The Artist”). The music is by Hildur Guðnadóttir (“Sicario: Day of the Soldado”).

‘Birds of Prey’ Trailer Frees Harley Quinn

Awards season buzz inexplicably means we all must still suffer Joker, a new movie starring one of the worst dudes the DC universe has to offer. But the success of Wonder Woman clued DC in that audiences like their ladies, too. And with their biggest female superhero established, why not take a crack at a clown who loves crime and is also a girl? Check out the new trailer for Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.
If that comically long subtitle doesn’t give it away, Birds of Prey focuses on Margot Robbie as the doctor turned murderous henchwoman turned wacky lovable antihero. After breaking up with the Joker (Jared Leto, not Joaquin Phoenix) in Suicide Squad, Quinn strikes out on her own in a Gotham City ruled by crime following Batman’s disappearance.
Quinn may be the star, since even in bad movies folks love her take on the character, but she’s not alone. Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead star as tough vigilantes Black Canary and Huntress. Rosie Perez plays detective Renee Montoya, who originated from Batman: The Animated Series just like Harley. Chris Messina and Ewan McGregor play bad guys Victor Zasaz and Black Mask. And newcomer Ella Jay Basco is eventual Batgirl successor Cassandra Cain.
We’ll see how Margot Robbie, director Cathy Yan, and writer Christina Hodson make Harley Quinn’s star shine even brighter when Birds of Prey releases in theaters next February. For more on DC here’s why we think James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad (also starring Robbie) should be a Marvel parody. And check out the trailer for the Harley Quinn cartoon coming this month to DC Universe.

FAST AND FURIOUS 9’ DELIVERS JUSTICE

STAY ON TARGET

  • Marvel, Bond, and More Super Bowl Trailers
  • Watch These Movies Before ‘Hobbs and Shaw’
There are no jokes we can crack about the Fast and Furious movies than are funnier than their earnest reality. Vin Diesel and his family have endured mediocre street racing movie roots, ill-advised sequels and spin-offs, goofy comic book team ups, devastating real-life tragedy, and petty meta feuds and there’s still nothing else quite like The Fast Saga in theaters. After an initial teaser threatening Dom’s peaceful new life as a father, we knew a full reveal wasn’t far behind. To build up hype for the first trailer for the ninth entry, the cast held a ridiculous livestream concert beforehand. And no one else could possibly get away with this.
Fast and Furious 9 sees the return of director Justin Lin, who really got this franchise going with his legendary streak helming Tokyo Drift through Furious Six before applying similar magic to Starfleet in Star Trek Beyond. Even more exciting, he’s also concurrently working on the tenth and possible final main film in the saga scheduled for next summer, promising a superhero epic Marvel wishes it could pull off.
Fast Nine is in theaters this May. A car swings on a rope. In the meantime, watch us play with some Fast and Furious cars while playing Forza Horizon.

ABOUT

About PUBLISHMEDIA®

Publish media are the world’s most trusted recommendation resources for quality entertainment. As the leading online aggregator of movie and TV show reviews from critics, we provide fans with a comprehensive guide to what’s Fresh – in theaters and at home. And the  Publish media  is just the beginning. We also serve movie and TV fans with original editorial content on our site and through social channels, produce fun and informative video series, and hold live events for fans across the country, with our ‘Your Opinion Sucks’ live shows. If you’re an entertainment fan looking for a recommendation, or to share an opinion, you’ve come to the right place.

What is the PUBLISHMEDIA®?

based on the opinions of hundreds of film and television critics – is a trusted measurement of critical recommendation for millions of fans.
Back in the days of the open theaters, when a play was particularly atrocious, the audience expressed their dissatisfaction by not only booing and hissing at the stage, but also throwing whatever was at hand – vegetables and fruits included.
The Publish media score represents the percentage of professional critic reviews that are positive for a given film or television show. A  jebucy media score is calculated for a movie or TV show after it receives at least five reviews.

What is Certified Fresh?
Certified Fresh status is a special distinction awarded to the best-reviewed movies and TV shows. In order to qualify, movies or TV shows must meet the following requirements:
  • A steady  Publish media score of 75% or higher.
  • At least five reviews from Top Critics.
  • Films in wide release must have a minimum of 80 reviews.
  • Films in limited release must have a minimum of 40 reviews.
  • Only individual seasons of a TV show are eligible, and each must have a minimum of 20 reviews.

A movie or TV show that reaches the requirements for Certified Fresh doesn't immediately receive the designation. Instead, it is automatically flagged for our staff's consideration. Once the team can determine that it's unlikely the score will drop below the minimum requirements, they will mark it Certified Fresh.
If the Jebucy media score drops below 70%, then the movie or TV show will lose its Certified Fresh status.

Curation

Publish media  has assembled a team of curators whose job it is to read thousands of movie and TV reviews weekly. The team collects movie and TV reviews from Jebucy media approved critics and publications every day, generating  Jebucy media scores. Our curators carefully read these reviews, noting if the reviews are Fresh or Rotten, and choose a representative pull-quote.  Jebucy media-approved critics can also self-submit their reviews.

Community Code of Conduct
